Für ihre Schulfreundinnen ist Madonna eine "lesbische Schlampe" - für die 11-jährige Reyhan Şahin ist sie das größte Vorbild. Dass wir Reyhan heute als Lady Bitch Ray kennen, als unkonventionelle Künstlerin, promovierte Sprachwissenschaftlerin, als kluge und meinungsstarke Feministin, hat viel mit der Queen of Pop zu tun. Sie erzählt uns davon - und von der Macht von Popmusik. Moderiert wird die Lesung von Yeşim Duman.

Das Interview mit Lady Bitch Ray findet statt im Rahmen des Förderprojekts 'music hub germany'. Das Projekt wird gefördert durch die Initiative Musik gemeinnützige Projektgesellschaft mbH mit Projektmitteln der Beauftragten der Bundesregierung für Kultur und Medien.

Yeşim Duman

Yeşim Duman is a DJ, radio host and organiser of the queer party series "bubble", "erdogay" and "Pop-Hayat". In her work she discusses queerness, social exclusion, race and the situation of female artists in popculture from the perspective of a post-migrant woman. Furthermore, Duman curates workshops and talks like "Lets talk about gender, habibi", "wish you were queer" or "Pop-Hayat". Past projects and events are realised at various institutions, among them Kampnagel in Hamburg, Golden Pudel Club, Vogelball-Festival, Pop-Kultur Festival Berlin, Reeperbahn Festival, Übel & Gefährlich, Mojo Club or Nachtasyl. Duman is part of the female:pressure network and is curating the monthly radio show at Byte FM.

Lady Bitch Ray

Dr. Reyhan Şahin, also known to many as Lady Bitch Ray, is a scientist, former rapper, performance artist, fashion designer, education consultant and author. She studied general linguistics, German language and literature and educational science in Bremen and received her doctorate in linguistics in 2012 on the system of meaning of the Muslim headscarf in Germany. Her dissertation "The Significance of the Muslim Headscarf" is the first comprehensive study in this field and was awarded the German Study Prize (Deutscher Studienpreis) in 2013. She is currently doing her habilitation on the topics of the New Right, racism, Islamophobia, anti-Semitism and gender. In 2012, she published her feminist pamphlet "Bitchsm" (VS-Verlag/Panini Books), in which she dealt with intersectional (queer) feminist topics such as Islamic feminism, hip hop and feminism in Germany at an early stage and related them to her own biography. Her most recently published books are: "Yalla, Feminism!" (9/2019 by Tropen/Klett Cotta) and "Lady Bitch Ray über Madonna" (04/2020 by Kiepenheuer&Witsch)
