Heliosturm

It is THE landmark of Ehrenfeld: the Helios Tower. The 44 m high lighthouse was built in 1894/95 by the electrical engineering company Helios AG, founded in 1888, which made an important contribution to the electrification of transport technology throughout Europe, but also to the entire industry. The technology of the lighthouses on Borkum and Wangerooge, for example, as well as many others, originated from the Cologne production. The Ehrenfeld lighthouse was finally built to test the beacons that were to be used on the German coast. But the heliosturm not only served a practical purpose, it was also intended to represent the company in an extraordinary way. In 1930, the factory had to close for financial reasons, but the tower is a reminder of a time when Ehrenfeld was still an industrial town that only became part of Cologne in 1888. The tower has even been a listed building since 1986.

The tower is not open to the public, but hardly any Ehrenfeld citizen would not want to climb the steps at least once to enjoy the most beautiful city in the world from above. On the Saturday and Sunday of our festival, you have the exclusive chance to take part in a guided tour via a raffle. So don't forget to follow us on Instagram to make sure you don't miss out on this opportunity!

The view over Ehrenfeld and our festival is made possible by the Bauwens group of companies, which took over the management of the area in 2008. We sincerely thank the Bauwens company for making it possible for us to add this highlight to our diverse programme.
