The participation and involvement of all people in pop culture is a goal to which many music promotion institutions have dedicated themselves under the buzzword "diversity". Looking at the reality, there is still a long way to go. Real change requires knowledge, resources, time, and most importantly, learning organizations that actively drive change in (power) structures.
In November 2021, the Initiative Musik partnered with Musicboard Berlin to host a discussion forum in Berlin on the topic of diversity in pop music funding. The one-day event, to which pop funding institutions based throughout Germany were invited, addressed the issue of appropriate representation of diversity and discriminatory exclusion in music funding. As a prelude to a joint process in which the status quo of the various funding institutions with regard to diversity management and joint options for action are to be explored, the forum discussed in particular the question of whether there is a need for minimum standards for diversity and inclusion in music funding.
In this panelKatja Lucker, Dorette Gonschorek, Achan Malonda, Erhard Grundl and Dieter Gorny will discuss this question together with moderator Johanna Esch.
