VUT Indie Days Köln: Ewig jung: Gibt es eine Erfolgsformel für Musiker*innen? (Talk)

VUT Indie Days Köln: Ewig jung: Gibt es eine Erfolgsformel für Musiker*innen? (Talk)

Frank Spilker

In the mid-1980s, Frank Spilker founds the German-language indie pop label “Fast Weltweit”. He joins the “Hamburger Schule” in the early 1990s and then enters the charts with his band "Die Sterne". Ten years later the singer and guitarist of the band has left all majors behind and his solo releases are out on Staatsakt or the band's own label Materie Records, which he organizes himself. As if that wasn't enough, he writes novels, publishes journalistic texts, is a DJ at ByteFm and a member of the VUT e.V. board.

In 2020 the band's seventh regular album "Trotzallem" will be released. Suzie is involved in numerous social projects.

Patrick Wagner

Patrick Wagner

During the Berlin boom of the 90s and early 2000s, Patrick Wagner achieved questionable fame as head of the band Surrogate and co-founder of the flagship indie label "Kitty-yo". After a brief intermezzo at Universal Music, he and his then wife founded Louisville Records and single-mindedly led it into bankruptcy in 2010. This was followed by years of seclusion and isolation. In 2015, he founded the Berlin Fuckup Night, an event where entrepreneurs talk about their failure, and shortly after that he formed the German Anger Wave Band "Gewalt" and since then he has been as happy as a destructive spirit like him can be. On the subject of ageing we find the following passage in one of his Gewalt lyrics: "...Our gaze goes back, our beauty on the run and injury haunts us like an addiction..." (Gewalt, Pandora).
