AK Connecting Smart Music Cities and Regions

In the working group for the nationwide exchange of the music industry "Connecting Smart Music Cities and Regions" of BV Pop, pop promoters, actors from the music industry, science and networks as well as representatives from politics and administration meet to exchange experiences, pain points and best practice models, for example with regard to the cooperation with administration and politics. The focus is as much on the exchange between urban and rural areas as on the exchange between music cities. The working group came into being in response to an increasing need for nationwide networking and cooperation between individual metropolises and regions. The goals of the working group are to improve the cooperation between cities and surrounding areas in order to increase the visibility of popular music culture, to present a networking platform that also motivates artists to participate, to evaluate the digital transformation during the Corona crisis, and to work out support and financial structures for solo self-employed artists under the expert advice of the GMM.

This session is divided into two parts:

Part 1: On digitalization during the corona crisis.
Part 2: On the situation of solo self-employed people

Part 1: On Digitization in the Corona Crisis

This Network Summit of the working group "Connecting Smart Music Cities and Regions" addresses the interactions between digitalization and the corona crisis. Moderated by Olaf Kretschmar (Berlin Music Commission, BV POP), Walter Ercolino (Pop-Büro Region Stuttgart), Claudia Schwarz (MusicTech Germany) and Frank Sonder (TEDx Speaker | Host | Creator) will share their perspectives and experiences on the topic and engage in an exchange with the participants. Questions will be addressed such as: What has the crisis taught us? What are the prospects for the future? Which tools will accompany us beyond the crisis and which are missing?

Speakers: Walter Ercolino, Claudia Schwarz, Frank Sonder
Moderator: Olaf Kretschmar

The topic will be discussed further in our session Once upon a time only digital - successful formats for online events with a focus on digital events & best practices starting at 3pm.

Part 2: The situation of the solo self-employed

This Network Summit of the working group "Connecting Smart Music Cities and Regions" is the prelude to a campaign on the role of solo self-employed in the music industry in cooperation with the expert committee "Music Networks" of the Gesellschaft für Musikwirtschafts- und Musikkulturforschung GMM e.V. It focuses on the situation of solo self-employed in Germany in the context of the corona crisis. After an introduction on the development of solo self-employment and the role of solo self-employed in the music industry by Univ.-Prof. Dr. phil. habil. Carsten Winter, funding consultant Rosita Kuerbis will present funding opportunities for solo self-employed artists before singer Gloria Blau will give input from the perspective of solo self-employed artists. Following the short inputs (each about 10 minutes), questions will be discussed in plenary with the participants. These are questions such as: Why is the number of solo self-employed artists increasing and what is the special pioneering role of the music industry and music culture in this context? Why does the support of ever-larger numbers of solo self-employed people pose a new structural challenge? Are support offers at the federal level suitable for solo self-employed to be able to achieve a new start, to professionalize themselves in the long term and to network with the industry? To what extent are support offers at the federal level suitable for solo self-employed people to achieve a new start, to professionalize themselves in the long term and to network with the industry? What platforms, networking structures, communication tools and instruments exist for solo self-employed and where is there a need for improvement?

Speakers: Dr. phil. habil. Carsten Winter, Rosita Kuerbis, Gloria Blau
Moderation: Olaf Kretschmar
